Standard Plan


A Standard Plan membership provides you with 24-hour emergency roadside service, plus a host of other valuable benefits and services. Your Standard Plan benefits* include:

Quick access to benefits

When you enroll online, you may start using your benefits immediately. We will send you an e-mail acknowledgement of your enrollment and include your permanent membership number. Your membership materials, including your membership card, will arrive within 14 business days after your application is processed.

If you need emergency roadside service before you receive your permanent membership number, you’ll be required to pay up front for the service and will be reimbursed later.

Road and Towing Service

Whenever you're in a jam—whether it’s a stalled car, flat tire or empty gas tank—simply call the 24-hour toll-free AARP Roadside Assistance phone number. We'll send a service provider to help get you back on the road or provide a tow to a repair facility. Covered emergency roadside services include:

  • Jump Start / Battery Boost
  • Flat Tire Change
  • Fuel Delivery
  • Towing up to 5 miles
  • Winching

Lockout Service/Lost Key Service

If you need locksmith services because your ignition key has been accidentally locked inside your car or your vehicle lock needs replacement, we will reimburse you up to $80. And if you have a broken, stolen or lost ignition car key, you will be reimbursed up to $25 for key replacement.

Winching Service

If your car is stuck in mud, sand, snow or a ditch, we'll provide winching service (one operator at 30 minutes) to free it.

Dispatch Guarantee

If, for some reason, we are unable to dispatch emergency roadside service when you call the toll-free number for service, we still have you covered. We will provide an authorization number and then reimburse you up to $160 for covered services you locate yourself.

Legal Defense Reimbursement

If you engage an attorney to defend you in court against a traffic violation, we'll reimburse the fees paid up to $1,000, according to the schedule below:

Guaranteed Arrest Bond

Your membership card can keep you out of jail! Just use your membership card in place of cash to post bond up to $1,000 if you're charged with a traffic violation (except for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, driving without a valid driver’s license or a felony violation). Please note that arrest bond is not accepted in CA, CO, KS, LA, NJ, TX or WA, and that the bond amount is limited in some states. Please refer to your Membership Handbook for details.

Auto Theft Deterrent Award

We'll pay a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thief if your car is stolen.

Hospital Emergency Room Bond

If you are injured over 100 miles from home and are required to provide evidence of financial security for admission to a hospital emergency room, the Hospital Emergency Room Bond card acts as a guarantee of your payment up to $1,000 (up to $250 for CA members). Please note that hospital emergency room bond is not accepted in some states and is limited to auto accident-related injuries in FL.

Trip Interruption Guarantee

If the vehicle you're traveling in is disabled as a result of an accident 100 miles or more from home, we'll reimburse you for certain travel and lodging expenses. Standard Plan benefits cover up to $375 (up to $500 for CA members) per incident for eligible expenses incurred within 48 hours of the accident; Up to $750 ($1000 for CA members) maximum per membership year. Trip Interruption Guarantee is not available to residents of TX.

Pathfinder® Trip Routing

Planning a trip? Let AARP Roadside Assistance guide your way. Your Standard Plan membership provides access to Pathfinder Trip Routing for no additional charge. Customized maps and routings are available for travel throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. You choose if you’d like to take the direct or scenic route. You also receive tips on where to stay and what to see when you get to your destination.

Lodging Discounts

Car Rental Discounts

Use your AARP membership for instant discounts and special protection when you rent a car at Alamo®, Avis®, Budget®, Enterprise Rent-A-Car®, Hertz® and National® car rental companies.

vehicle Repair Referral

If your car needs repairs, call our 24-hour toll-free number for the names, addresses, phone numbers and hours of operation of participating auto repair facilities closest to you. Most of these facilities have Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification and provide a warranty on their repairs. Warranty Repair Service

If your car was repaired at a recommended authorized repair facility, and the same repair is required within 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever occurs first) due to defective parts or workmanship, we'll cover the costs, parts and labor up to the cost of the original repair to have it repaired again at another authorized facility. You must be 50 miles or more away from the original repair facility. Warranty Repair Service is not available to residents of CA. Please refer to your Membership Handbook for details.

Vehicle Repair Check Guarantee

If your car breaks down and requires emergency repair work that is not covered by your Standard Plan membership, you can choose to pay by personal check. With the Vehicle Repair Check Guarantee, participating service providers will honor your personal check (two per 30-day period totaling no more than $500) for repairs, parts, labor or road service, and towing not covered by AARP Roadside Assistance.


Although not all service providers accept personal checks, for those that do, the Vehicle Repair Check Guarantee ensures the provider will receive payment, and you won't get turned away.
